Fitness apps are an increasingly popular way to monitor health, activity, and sleep patterns. For people looking to lose weight, be more active, or better understand their current fitness level, these apps can be crucial to success. Plunkett Fitness pushes all of our clients to find ways to stay on track and motivated, and we think that fitness apps are a great way to do that. We have compiled a list of our five favorite fitness apps.
#1. MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is one of the easiest and most popular fitness apps available. With MyFitnessPal, you have a wealth of information and tools to help you with your diet and exercise goals. The app’s large database of foods and drinks, which includes more than 5 million different foods and allows you to scan barcodes for nutritional information, makes it easier for you to count the calories that you eat, and you can see how many you are burning each day with your activity. You can also import recipes into the app to find calorie information. The best part: MyFitnessPal is completely free.
#2. Sworkit
For detailed workout routines that are created to help you meet your goals, download Sworkit. This app can help you work specific parts of your body and focus on things like strength and flexibility. The basic app is free and includes more than 200 different types of exercises, including those for children, but if you pay for the premium service, you can get even more workouts. Currently, the pap has more than 13 million users.
With Sworkit, you can choose from one of the pre-made workouts or customize your workout by picking the length of the workout and the areas you want to target. You can also do interval training with randomized exercises to get the most out of your workouts. Sworkit has workouts for people at all fitness levels. An extra detail with Sworkit is that it includes music options from Spotify that you can put in a playlist for your workouts.
#3. Couch to 5k
If you have ambitions that include running a 5K race, the Couch to 5K app is for you. In just 30 minutes three times a week, you will be 5K-ready in nine weeks. This app is made for beginners. You can choose a motivation coach and use the app to share your progress with friends and family on social media. You can also use the app to interact with other runners from the Couch to 5K community to stay motivated and share advice.
Couch to 5K provides you with data that monitors your performance including pace and distance, so you can see how you are improving.
#4. Charity Miles
Working out has never felt so good, because with Charity Miles, you can earn money for charities when you walk, run, or ride your bicycle. Runners earn 25 cents per mile for the charity of their choice and bikers earn 10 cents per mile. The app is free, and donations are made from corporate sponsors like Humana and Timex Sports who donate a little bit for each mile you complete. You also have the freedom to select the charity you want to support from the list on the app, which includes Feeding America and the Wounded Warrior Project.
#5. Strava
If you like to compete, Strava is a great app for you. With Strava, you can compete against yourself or strangers who have been on the same routes you like to run or bike on. You can connect the app to a Garmin device to make it easier to log and compare your workouts. The leaderboard function lets you see how you are doing compared to the other people in your area on the app. Strava is a free app, but there is also a premium version available for $6 a month.
Strava also allows members to communicate with one another to provide support, motivation, and advice to each other like a social media website.
No matter what app you decide to use, you are taking control of your fitness and health by taking the initiative to keep yourself motivated and accountable with a fitness app. If you are looking for help with your diet and exercise regimen, Plunkett Fitness’ personal trainers can help. Our trainers are experts in both fitness and nutrition, so they can provide insight that you can’t get from a fitness app.
