We get it – Halloween candy is on shelves everywhere and it’s hard to resist the temptation to indulge in candy bars, cupcakes, cookies, and other sweet treats! What could be harmful about a fun size candy bar? They’re the mini versions of their full size relatives and contain less sugar and calories. While that is true, these little fun size bars are rarely enjoyed just once; most people eat at least a few, which adds up to one full size candy bar. Even the fun size bars have between 60-95 calories – just for one or two bites! If that’s not scary, we don’t know what is. Salty Treats
Right before fall, the big name food brands come out with Halloween themed treats; bone-shaped cheesey puffs, trail mix with white ghost candies, white cheddar popcorn, etc. Skip their salty treats that are high in calories and fat and make your own! Here are a few ideas:
- Popcorn balls
- Air popped popcorn with light seasoning of your choice
- Trail mix made with air popped popcorn, dark chocolate chips and pretzels
- Mini sandwiches shaped like ghosts using cookie cutters
