Bench press fail. How many times have we all seen the videos and pictures of people failing on a bench press in seriously scary ways? Sometimes, it’s just too heavy. Sometimes, no clips on the bar and the plates slide off – first one side…then the other. And sometimes, no spotter. Imagine if a heavily loaded barbell came crashing down on your chest (or worse – your neck!). Not good.
Learning to spot properly GREATLY reduces the chance of injury to the lifter. The key here is PROPERLY. Anyone can stand behind a lifter and give encouragement, but a spotter is there for safety first.
