With less than a week to go before the big day looms we know more than most here at Overland Park Boot Camp that it’s easy to forget about losing weight, knowing that at times the temptation to nibble or over-indulge is just going to seem too much.
But there are ways to cope with ignoring all those calorific too-tempting delicacies we’re sure to be confronted with at parties and on Christmas Day itself without coming across as a real bah humbug.
And anyway, it’s practically impossible to lose weight at this time of year. The best you can hope for really is to maintain your weight as it is. Don’t worry too much though – to put on an extra 1lb of weight you would have to eat an additional 3500 calories.
Make sure you do plenty of walking over ChristmasParty strategy to help you stay slim
For instance, if you have a party to go too it’s a good idea to ‘fill up’ beforehand on healthy foods such as a big bowl of porridge for breakfast and plenty of fruit. If you’re going to have a drink try and alternative each one with a glass of water. Or, if you’re going to have a glass of wine why not add fizzy water and make it a wine spritzer?
The great thing about parties too is that there’s usually a band or disco there which means strutting your stuff on the dance floor and burning up all those extra calories.
Prevent yourself nibbling at home
Over Christmas week there’s always plenty of food lying around in the house because most of us tend to buy far more than we need reckoning on friends and family dropping in.
Instead of just grabbing stuff at the supermarket or grocery store it makes sense to write a list and work out exactly what foodstuffs you should be filling your cupboards with and in what quantities so they’re not staring you in the face every time you open the fridge door.
And no telling yourself you’re only eating so that the food doesn’t go to waste!
And finally…
Just because it’s Christmas Day, it doesn’t mean you can’t exercise. A brisk 30 minute walk or so is better than no walk at all – and it’ll make you feel better getting out the house. We’ll see you out there then?
